PRODUCTION-GYM: We listened to smashing pumpkins tonight tonight
THEORY-GYM: Went though a song by Melt that Standish brought in 👍
OFFICE HOURS: Assisted Josephine with choosing and configuring a subwoofer. Mix feedback: rather than taming bass, sometimes we are missing an element in the high end
OFFICE HOURS: Discussed monitoring and levels. Direct monitoring, headroom vs. gain, using compression for vocalist while recording, and getting headphone levels setup.
INSTRUMENT-GYM: Movable bar chords, shell chords, 7th chords in many different positions
OFFICE HOURS: Mix feedback for the song from yesterday's office hours. A few volume adjustments, and Eq for the bass, looking at the analog modeled eq plugins in logic and how to use them. Setting up a reverb channel and blending a short room and long hall or plate reverb.
OFFICE HOURS: We listened to a song from a recording session he was working on. We dialed in settings for drum compression, vocal, and guitar eq together, and talked about how the tools were changing the sound. We went over some common compression settings for drums, and why those often work.
BEAT-CHALLENGE: We heard three new ideas and discussed developing them with the use of found sounds (field recordings), we talked about converting a synth lead to monophonic, and we talked about turning a long improvisation into new and shorter song ideas.
