Ableton Core

Get productive in Ableton Live

Ableton has two views, a unique clip-based workflow, and a deep set of built-in instruments and effects. Most people learn bits of it from YouTube over months. This course teaches you how Session and Arrangement views connect, how the routing works, and how to build a project from scratch — so the software makes sense as a whole, not just in isolated pieces.

27 chapters of ground covered

  • Navigation and topology — how Live is laid out, what lives where, and the Session/Arrangement relationship that defines Ableton’s workflow
  • Getting stuff in — audio, MIDI, samples, loops, and instruments. Every way to bring material into a project
  • Recording — audio and MIDI recording, cycle recording, comping, punching, overdubs, and looping
  • Editing — clip editing, warping, quantizing, groove extraction. Ableton’s approach to time manipulation
  • Instruments and synthesis — Operator, Wavetable, Simpler, Sampler, and how Racks and Chains let you build complex instruments from simple pieces
  • Effects and mixing — Live’s audio effects, working with sends and returns, and building a mix inside the DAW
  • Slicing and sampling — chopping audio into playable instruments, a core Ableton workflow
  • Automation, arrangement, and performance — moving from loops to finished tracks, and Live’s unique strengths for live performance and DJ sets

Taught at an Ableton Certified Training Center by instructors who use Live daily.

Prerequisites: None. This is the starting point.

What's next? Mixing and Synthesis Tools — the effects, synthesis, and mixing vocabulary that applies across every DAW.

Had an Awesome class about Music Theory! It was short but sweet! Being only a music enthusiast and curious on what the class has to offer, Nathan (Instructor) was able to explain it so well and had me captivated on what it is all about. Pretty sure I’ll be attending more classes and just expand my knowledge for sure! -Timothy
