It’s easy to take air for granted because it’s invisible, but from an audio perspective, that’s a mistake. In actuality, we’re swimming in it all the time. With about 14 pounds per square inch at sea level, that’s about a thousand pounds on this table right now.
Air is springy. It’s elastic. And so the sooner we stop thinking about it like this, and start thinking about it more like this, the sooner we’ll be on our way to understanding acoustics.
