Sometimes we can easily explain the relationship between two chords using an established music theory device. But we don’t always have to. Today in our morning music theory workout I asked my students to pick note names and a major and minor value and send it to me privately.
I took the first three and I randomly created this chord sequence. Now on face value these chords have very little to do with one another, but if we dig we find commonality between them. I tied it together with a fourth chord, which I felt gave meaning to the first three.
Not sure, but I might have just written the next radiohead song. Any two notes, any two chords can go together. It’s up to you to show your listener why.
