With the holidays upon us, you may not see us as much over the next few days, but don’t worry, we’re gonna be back in the new year with new content, new instructors, and in case I don’t see you, I wanna leave you with this thought. Music theory, it’s not a bunch of rules you follow, and they’re not laws either. You don’t have to worry about breaking the laws of nature because you can’t.
When your signals are out of phase, you’re gonna get cancellation. If you double the frequency, you will always have an octave. The overtone series will always inform your sense of harmony.
We lead with our hearts and with our ears, and music theory is just for the insatiably curious among us. We want to understand better why music moves us in the first place. So instead of thinking of music theory as something that tells you what you’re supposed to do, think of it as a way to understand what you did.
Just like beat makers want to understand why you might choose one microphone over another. Have a great musical holiday, everyone, and we’ll see you on the other side.
