Accountability. It might be the single most influential factor that defines people that meet their musical goals. This morning, I set up a buddy system at Beat Kitchen, but it occurs to me you don’t have to be a member to work something like this out for yourself.
I’m just not gonna do it for you. I asked the members to raise their hand if they’d make use of a buddy they could check in with once a week for four weeks. And I asked the members to raise their hand if they would be that buddy for someone else.
Now within the school, I’ll manage the connections. But even if you’re not a member, knowing that you’re carving out the time and the mental space to dedicate to something that you love is one of the reasons people join a school like this in the first place. And you can just do it here.
Leave a comment below if you’d like someone to check in on you and respond to a comment if you would be that person for someone else. Commit to doing it for four weeks and ask each other, “Hey, how did music go for you this week?” You might be surprised at how something so small can make a really big difference.
