So one breakthrough that I had when I was learning how to do all of this, I think it’s very easy to forget about velocity when you’re putting stuff into a piano roll. For a while when I was starting out, all of the drums I was programming were at full velocity all the time. I used to create sort of patterns like this where,, very unchanging sort of feeling.
I really like to make sure that I’m creating a good amount of dynamics. There’s a big difference between this and this. It’s taken for granted, I think, among like higher level producers that this is just something that you would do.
But I think for people starting out, I don’t see it sort of talked about very often.
