Compression: input output

Transcription of the video above

A compressor reduces the level of a track, but one of the places people get confused is in understanding where it reduces that level. A compressor has an input and an output. Think of it as two valves.

The compressor doesn’t do anything to the level going into it. It really just looks at that level and turns it up or down depending on how loud the input signal is. You’re only changing the output, not the input.

The result is a level that looks more consistent than it did before. We teach music theory, music production, and compression. And if someone who belongs in a Beat Kitchen class, share this post.
