Stop Putting a Compressor on Every Track

Some of you are putting compressors on every track because you think you’re supposed to. If you see compressors on every track, it’s because after the fader and EQ, a compressor is probably the next most versatile tool for audio. It can make the source more dynamic. It can make it less dynamic. It can reshape the attack, or extend the sustain.

But those are all very different things. Don’t just stick one there because you think you are supposed to. That’s not how this works.
