Let’s take a look at this descending chromatic line and ask ourselves what it has to do with the key of C. If you play the bass, your bandmates really want you to do one thing, which is play the root. But when the bass is in motion, it’s playing melodically and you can land temporarily in some other spots.
That’s gonna give you some interesting harmonic motion. Like this. It’s just four chords in the right hand.
