This diminished chord resolves nine places and the first eight are easy. It’s because a diminished chord is essentially a dominant chord in disguise. And where does a five chord go?
It goes to one major or minor. And any diminished chord starting on one of these four notes actually has the same notes in it. They are identical.
That’s where I come up with eight easy resolutions because that one diminished chord can act like four different dominant chords. And each of those four chords is happy to resolve to either a major or a minor chord. So what’s the last resolution?
This one’s a little surprising. Because a diminished chord can also resolve to itself.
