The flutter echo is created when you have two parallel surfaces. The sound bounces back and forth, kind of like this picture in the mirror. The rate of the flutter is determined by the distance between the surfaces, and that’s also a piece in the equation that gives you the resonant frequency you hear in the reverb tail.
