This is a Helmholtz resonator, and you’ll see them in studios. Although if they look like this, they’re probably serving two functions. And unlike this, we’re not resonating the body itself, but instead the air contained within it.

The resonator acts a bit like flypaper, pulling the energy from those frequencies directly out of the air. Essentially, resonators are tuned to the problem frequencies in your room, and they just trap them in a bottle. Meanwhile, you can sample that and share it with someone who belongs in a big kitchen class.
