I’ve discovered a new chord! A minor augmented chord. The internet’s gonna have a field day with this one, but hear me out.
what an augmented chord is. It’s a major chord with a raised fifth. Kind of like a diminished chord is a minor chord with a flattened fifth.
But what about a minor chord with a raised fifth? A minor augmented chord? This is where the plot thickens, because in Music Theory 101, they probably told you that this F belongs an octave below, and it’s just an F chord in the first inversion.
Or is it? Case study, L and R ring B by the Beatles, where the exact same chord is used in both a major and a minor context. Okay, so let’s call this an F.
But you’ll have a hard time convincing this whole thing isn’t A minor. Because when that F comes along, even though it’s the same chord, boy do you feel it. Look at all the lonely people.
We hear it in the James Bond theme. Give another listen to the Neapolitan 6. You can tell me those are inverted major chords, But in my heart of heart, I still believe.
