If you don’t read music, you deserve to know you can understand and talk about music theory without knowing how to read. And while it can be helpful, as someone who can speak to you authoritatively about music theory, and as someone who’s functionally useless when it comes to reading, I can assure you that these two skills do not depend on one another. Similarly, if you’re worried about not having perfect pitch, don’t even get me started.
