A healthy amount of self-doubt isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Doesn’t mean you’re an imposter. Sometimes the only way to get qualified to do something is to qualify yourself.

Even pilots. They start out in ground school, they end up in flight school. No matter what you learn, no matter where you learn it.

Eventually, you get tested in the field. But we’re talking about music here, right? I don’t trust anyone who tells me they can stick a landing 100% of the time.

Self-doubt, it’s part of being prepared for the unknown. When you pay for a professional, you’re paying for someone who on their worst day is good enough to land the plane. Imposter syndrome crops up when self-doubt gets amplified by a culture of meatheads who act and talk like they’re qualified for everything.

That’s arguably a lot more dangerous. There’s nothing wrong with being skeptical of your own abilities, but don’t let it paralyze you. And no matter how much or how much you don’t, surround yourself with the type of person that knows how to work with a copilot.

That’s what you can expect from a meat kitchen class. And if someone who belongs in one, share this post.
