There is a myth that’s pervasive around here, which is that people can teach you how to mix. It’s responsible for a lot of these ridiculous EQ and compression presets, and maybe it’s a matter of semantics, but I think those of us who have been doing this for a long time can tell you, nobody can teach you how to mix. Mixing is an expression of your taste, but it does rely on tools, and we can teach you how to use those.
We can also teach you how to listen with better acuity, and that’s going to help you because you can learn to mix. So the way we do it is we put you in a small group of five to eight people. We sit down, we talk about how those tools work, we talk about how you might leverage them, and we also talk about the tools of basic synthesis because it’s the same language.
The outcome of that class is that you can then go into an advanced mixing class and work with someone who has a lot of experience and can talk to you about their methods and their workflow. So the class where we discuss these tools is called “Effects, Synthesis, and Mixing Primer.” It starts soon, and we got a couple seats. If someone who wants to join, please share this post.
