Let’s stop treating music theory like it’s a noun. I’m convinced it’s a verb. When two people hear the same piece of music, they may have wildly different interpretations.
But the more you think about it, the more amazing it is that we have a shared response at all. And your shared response with others is a starting place from which we learn to talk about music and ask each other what’s going on and why. It’s not something or not.
