I think it’s important to set benchmarks for yourself. It doesn’t matter if it’s getting 20,000 followers, starting your own music production school, getting signed to a label, making it through a piece you’ve been practicing. It’s important to set those milestones, not just because you have to practice in order to achieve them, but because you have to practice the state of being successful.
Remember, we get to define our own success. We don’t have to let other people do it for us. And so it becomes important to identify those moments that are successful, not just so we feel good, but because with those moments comes change.
And it’s important that we learn to navigate those changes successfully. The state of being successful takes practice just like everything else. So if I’ve learned anything about this, it’s to set meaningful and generous milestones for yourself, practice getting better at being successful, and then try to do it frequently and with humility.
