If you find yourself running off lots of mp3 files and wishing you had a better way to do it in macOS, here’s my workflow and maybe you’ll like it. I leverage the open source Lame Encoder, which is free, and I use Automator to run a little shell script so I can encode anything from a right click in my Finder. There are a bunch of different ways you can install the Lame Encoder, but I like a developer tool called Homebrew, which is a package manager.
It doesn’t really matter how you install the Lame Encoder. Once it exists on your system, this little Automator script will run it from a right click. You can configure it to save at different bit rates and stuff like that, but I also really like that you can run it in a batch.
It’s a quick way to create a whole bunch of mp3 files out of WAVs or AAF. We teach some digital skills in our Digital Skills elective. You’ll find stuff like that there, and if someone who belongs in a Beat Kitchen class, send them our way.
