Session Recall Hack

Transcription of the video above

When you’re working in the box, you enjoy a luxury, which is that all of your plugins and settings snap to attention as soon as you open your session. If you’re using analog gear, you don’t need me to tell you about the time it takes to recall a session. What I’m talking about today is actually documentation.

The workflow that I’m sharing today replaces stuff like this, but it’s useful with everything from mic settings to guitar tones, and it yields for my days of being frustrated with keeping track of track sheets on tape. The idea is simple. Dedicate a track in your DAW or a section of tape at the end of your song and just record yourself as you reset your equipment.

VCO detune. Three o’clock. Portamento.

Off. Envelope intensity. Zero.

When it’s time to recall your session, just play back the track and follow the instructions. Resetting your equipment is best practice, but it’s also really good for you creatively. And if that sounds like the kind of thing you’re into, like this post, follow Beat Kitchen, and share this post with somebody who belongs in one of our classes.
