There’s one thing that separates veteran producers and engineers from newcomers, and that thing is understanding signal flow. Your command of signal flow extends beyond setting up a send and return or creating a sidechain. It’s all about delivering the thing you want, where you want it, when you want it, and how you want it to get there.
In either the analog or digital domain, tackling this topic is probably the single most effective thing you can do to educate yourself. So consider this less about plugging this thing into that thing or sending these over here. Understanding signal flow is going to be the main tool that you can use to meet unexpected problems effectively and creatively.
