It’s not hard to tell when an engineer or a producer has a firm grasp on recording studio arts. But the normal metrics don’t apply when it comes to testing here. These days, anyone can replicate anything from a video or a prompt. But those things will never know how to answer the questions that you don’t know how to ask. The best way to kick the tires of a music producer is to see how they meet unexpected problems with creative solutions. That requires that you know how to leverage ideas that touch on many concepts at once.
This little thought exercise is a great way to test yourself and see if you understand the basics of stereo imaging, mid side processing, phase, polarity, and the importance of routing and signal flow.
