Here are 10 chords for you to chew on, centered around the key of C until you’re ready to join a Beat Kitchen class. Buckle up because these are gonna go by quick and you’re gonna want to save this post. C because it’s gonna serve as home plate.

G because it has a supernatural ability to send you back to C. A minor because that’s gonna be home plate for you when you’re in the minor key. F is the predominant, it’s the home away from home.

Nice place to visit but you don’t get to live there. D minor is your minor predominant, nice place to hang out and it opens the door to this useful 2-5 progression. D minor, G7.

E minor and you’re ready for your first black note. So here’s an E or an E7 because its superpower is to send you right back to A minor. And here’s a D or a D7 to set off a chain reaction going to G or G7 which brings you right back to C.

I’m gonna throw in a B flat to give you somewhere to go in the future and let’s change that F to an F minor in case it feels sad. And now you’re back home. There is a universe of music in those 10 chords.

If you get them under your fingers, do them in different keys. If we get a lot of comments here, I’ll create a cheat sheet for our followers and if you’re ready to join a Beat Kitchen class or have questions about membership, reach out and talk to me.
