Here are 10 things that are more important than your vocal chain. A good headphone mix. Taking some time to figure out the best key for your song.

The proximity, the orientation, and the position of your microphone. The vibe. Your ability to evaluate and edit and comp a good take.

Are you warmed up and ready to sing and hydrated? Are your vocals isolated from background noise? And that means you turn this off?

And this. This little switch turns the fridge on by the way every four hours just in case somebody forgets. Are you reading or are you off-book?

Because if you’re singing, I’m probably not going to feel like you’re telling me anything. Which is also going to be a little hard if the singer feels like they’re performing in a zoo. Is there enough space for the vocal to live in the arrangement and in the mix?

That’s not to say the vocal chain isn’t important to you. Luckily we’re going to talk about all of that. Vocal kitchen starts soon.

It’s not just for vocalists. If you don’t sing, we’ll provide someone who does. You can share that with someone who belongs in a Beat Kitchen class.
