This is a tetrachord. And this is a tetrachord. tetrachord isn’t a word you’re likely to hear a lot except maybe as a pickup line at a music theory convention but there are couple little hacks that make it a useful thing to know about.
Think of a tetrachord as a way of describing four notes that sit within the interval of a fourth, they come in a few different flavors but you can combine any two and separate them by a whole tone and create a scale. Like remember this guy? Whole step, whole step, half step, whole step, whole step, whole step, half step.
Well, no? Well neither do most beginners because it’s not that intuitive. But check it out because the whole step, whole step, half step part of that tetrachord is the same tetrachord that appears at the top of the scale.
Separated by a whole step, the two tetrachords, they’re identical. So learn this little scale with two half steps in between it and now you learn the scale. Share this to get it in front of a producer who belongs in a Beat Kitchen class.
