If you’re unfamiliar with the keyboard, this is about to be the best and the worst lesson you’ll ever get. And to manage expectations, this is more for a producer who’s likely to be playing something like this than something like that. But it’s the same thing.
And here’s the part that’s gonna make your piano teacher cringe. I’d like to introduce you to the claw. To be clear, this is bad piano technique, and you’re gonna need to unlearn it later.
But the key of C is made up of all white keys, and the claw is gonna allow you to play all of the chord types that live within it by spacing out the notes every other note. These chords may all look like they are the same, but actually they’re different because the piano keyboard is not symmetrical. This space is bigger than this space.
Notice there’s an extra black key in between them. Whether you play it here or here, this silly claw thing opens up the door for you to start playing meaningful chords.
