How many chords do? Because there are a lot. Do you remember the phone book?
You never carried that around with you. But at some point, you carried around a little black book. That was the one with the names and the phone numbers of the people that were important to you.
Okay, so how many chords are there? Well, there are 12 keys, right? Actually, it’s more like 21 if you want to include things like this, C sharp and a D flat.
And this could be a C flat. And that’s just major chords. So that’s 42 major and minor chords.
21 augmented. 21 diminished. So 21 times major, minor, augmented, diminished.
That’s another 84 minor sounds, another 84 major sounds. That’s like 250 chords. And we’re not even talking about the interesting ones yet.
And as it turns out, out of all these, there are about 10 that really do the lifting in any given key. And those are the ones you’re gonna wanna stick in your DAW and turn into bops. And that’s what we teach, starting with the musician basics elective.
Six classes taught live in small groups. And if someone who belongs in one, share this post. (wind blowing)
