Getting comfortable with keyboard chords means getting comfortable with inversions. This fun little game will help you learn to get from point A to point B. The six faces of this die represent six chords in the key of C.

One, two, three, etc. If we’re on a six and we roll a two, we want to avoid picking up our entire hand. Instead, we want to identify the shortest path.

In this case, the common note is A, so we retain it and we just swipe right for the D minor. And should we roll a four from here, changing a single note gives us that F chord. Moving from place to place efficiently instills the idea of good voice leading.

It’s going to inspire melodies and it’s going to get you moving around the keyboard a lot better. Have fun playing this game and share it with someone who belongs in a Beat Kitchen class.
