Sometimes the name of a thing will tell you what’s inside of it. Sometimes its name tells you what it does. We often conflate how things are organized with their purpose.
What are you even talking about Nathan? Okay, so for example, some songs have a few sections, but they don’t have a chorus. A section is an address.
A chorus is a function or with harmony. You can build a triad using the same three notes, but that same chord will do completely different things in two different keys. The sound that arrives at your ear isn’t necessarily the one you perceive.
Taking care to articulate the difference between what things are made of and what they do can bring you a lot of clarity. And it’s true for more than just music.
