If you get confused because things don’t sound the way you expect them to, that happens to everybody. But the difference between someone like me and you might be the way we learned. We live in an extraordinary time and with very little experience, you can pick up a tool and start creating with it.
It’s one of the most wonderful things I can imagine. And I hate to pull the “when I was your age” card, but when I was your age, you had an idea. You had to start patching a network of connections, balance a system of gain and impedance, match inputs with outputs.
And if something, anything was wrong, there was a pretty good chance the outcome would be fck* total silence. Or sometimes even worse. The result is that we learned how the components interact in a fundamental way that you don’t have to.
Yet. It’s not a bad thing, but it does represent an important difference. And it’s my belief that you will come to a point when you will need to know this stuff.
So until that day comes, keep creating. But someday, if that sounds like you or somebody, that person may belong in a Beat Kitchen class.
