Think of an artist that you admire, and in the comment below, share what you think is their worst work. It doesn’t matter who you are, everybody’s capable of producing a clunker. The purpose of this is not to shame anybody, it’s the opposite.
It’s to celebrate the fact that they swung at the ball even though they may not have hit it. I want to remind you that you’re no different. When you go back and examine something you made, you may not like it anymore, but even our heroes couldn’t predict whether their works would stand the test of time.
We only know that with 2020 hindsight. So why would you hold yourself to a different standard? And if this helps you, remember that there was a time when you made that thing and it felt good to you.
If it doesn’t feel good to you now, chances are you’re thinking about yourself. I’ve got news for you. The person who’s going to digest your work isn’t thinking about you.
They’re thinking about themselves. If you liked it once, they might like it too. If not, you’re in the company of greatness, and you can share that with somebody who belongs in a Beat Kitchen class.
