Chords Aren't Phone Numbers

Music Theory

Cords and scales are a mystery because you’re trying to memorize them like phone numbers. That’s the old way. Now when you want to call someone, you don’t think of digits. You think of a person. You think of what you want to say to them. You find their picture and you press call. That’s the way I want to teach you to think about harmony. Every chord has a function. It’s not special because of what’s in it. It’s special because of where you’ve been and where you’re going. Music theory may look like this, but it functions like this. There are 10 primary chords in this system and I’m teaching a workshop on Saturday to unlock the way you think about harmony. It’s a big topic. That’s why we need about six hours so you can stop, ask questions, and try things out for yourself. It’s how we teach every class at beat kitchen. I think that’s a tremendous value for $100 and the first 10 people are so to jump on this are going to get those seats. This workshop includes a month of beat kitchen residency, dozens of drop-in sessions over the next month. Music theory, gym, office hours, music production breakdowns, your training. It’s always small groups and frequently one-on-one. That’s what a beat kitchen class is all about and if you know someone who belongs in one, share this post.
