Who needs synthesis, right? Because why don’t we just sample everything? And we could, but the difference is that sampling gives us something static.
And musical sounds are expressive because they change dynamically. And different forms of synthesis give us some radically different options to play with. That’s why we bother with things like FM and granular and wavetable synthesis.
Because we can take the things that they do and manipulate those things musically in ways that aren’t just the same beep and boop every time. I’m really excited to announce an upcoming Advanced Synthesis class. That’s where we look at the stuff that happens beyond Subtractive Synthesis.
If you’re thinking about joining a synth class at the kitchen, keep your eye out for that one. It’s going to hit the schedule soon.
