Hey, I want to apologize to the person who kind of ambushed me on Discord the other day and asked me to listen to their song. I was too tired to explain the conditions for listening, and I want you to hear this carefully. It does not matter what I think of your song.
What matters is if your song meets your goals, and until I can talk to you and understand who you are and what you are trying to do, until I can put myself in the mind and the ears of your listener, I can’t help you. Music is a two-way street, and so when you hear somebody say, “This kick drum is wrong,” or there’s not enough compression on the vocal, they’re in their head, and they’re not in yours. So when you play a song for me, it’s important that I know who’s going to be listening to it.
How’d you make it? Because if I can help connect you with something that you don’t know, that’s my job.
