Get Fluent in the Language of Music
Musician Basics is where producers, vocalists, and instrumentalists learn to speak music fluently—without needing to read every note on the page.
This class builds your foundation in harmony, chord structure, and song form so you can understand what you’re hearing, communicate better with collaborators, and start making intentional musical choices in your productions.
We’ll focus on the practical vocabulary that underpins everything from songwriting to arrangement: how chords move, how sections fit together, and how to use your instrument—whatever it is—to express those ideas confidently. No classical background required.
At the conclusion of this course you should expect to:
- Know the main chord types, their functions, and how they fit into progressions
- Understand song structure and identify common sections (verse, chorus, bridge, etc.)
- Play chords and inversions confidently on a keyboard or instrument of choice
- Recognize harmonic motion in your favorite songs
- Participate more actively and ask better questions in Music Theory Gym ​
Format: Live Remote Meeting in a dedicated Discord video channel
Prerequisites: None. Helpful to have a keyboard nearby
