Harmony 1-Day Intensive: Master the 10-Chord Toolkit

In this focused 6-hour intensive, you’ll gain a rapid, functional understanding of harmony through Beat Kitchen’s 10-Chord Toolkit — a curated system that moves beyond memorizing voicings to understanding what chords do within their key-space.

What You’ll Learn

• Chord function over memorization: Understand how harmonic relationships dictate movement
• The 10-Chord Toolkit: A streamlined, immediately applicable framework for composition
• Interactive analysis: Use the Harmony Wheel (MIDI-enabled) for real-time functional chord analysis of the songs you love
• Advanced concepts made visual: Borrowed chords and modal interchange become intuitive

What You’ll Need

• Just an afternoon with us (we’ll break for lunch)
• A quiet place to sit sit
• A keyboard nearby to play chords
• It’s helpful if you know the names of the notes, but we’ll start at the very beginning. This class is suitable for most levels.

The Harmony Wheel

The workshop uses Beat Kitchen’s Harmony Wheel, an interactive, theory-aware tool. Connect your MIDI keyboard for instant functional analysis of your chords. The Wheel’s multiple keyspaces make abstract harmonic relationships—such as borrowed chords and modal interchange—visually intuitive and immediately applicable.
